Toto is the company that makes the fancy Japanese toilets, also known as Washlets. These toilets have the option of a heated seat, a bidet and deodorizer, among other things.
Before the formation of Toto its members were session musicians for Steely Dan[3] Seals and Crofts[4and Crofts[4] Boz Skaggs, Sonny and Cher. The guitarist Steve Lukather is the band's vocalist.
About Toto
Toto was formed in 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro, David Paich (who at the time were also famous studio musicians working with Boz Scaggs) and singer/bassist Bobby Kimball. Their name is derived from the Latin word that means "all inclusive," the group was intent on exploring every musical style.
The third album by Toto, Turn Back, was not a success in 1981. However they came back with their fourth release, Isolation, which contained two hits with the title track and Roseanna. The album and their tour established them as a brand across the globe.
After a short hiatus, Toto returns with the album Fahrenheit. It's a change from the ballads that were featured on previous albums and features some heavy rock. It was their first platinum album in North America.
In the course of recording the fifth album the group loses their manager and is faced with financial problems. They decide to record a brand new album and change their name an entirely different producer. Joseph Williams, the son of John Williams, the legendary film composer and actress Barbara Ruick from 1950s, takes over Fergie Frederiksen as the lead vocalist. Joseph is more natural as a frontman than Frederiksen and gives the band a much needed boost.
The band released Mindfields in 1999, and then embarks on a major tour across the globe. After a few months in Europe they travel to Japan where the shows are sold out. After a short break, Toto resumes recording and begins recording their first live album, Absolutely Live in 1993 which includes the cover of Weezer's track Hash Pipe in response to the band's cover of their hit Africa during a recent tour. Toto's touring band is rounded out by drummer Lenny Castro, bassist Shannon Forrest and keyboardist Shem von Schroeck.

Toto came back together for a benefit concert in 2010 to raise funds for the ALS Foundation. It was the first time all of the original Toto members were on stage together in over 31 years. The original group was joined by keyboardist Greg Tambu who filled in for Paich, and bassist David Hungate who filled in for Shem von Schroeck.

Toto has been one of the most adored rock groups for more than three decades, releasing huge hits like "Rosanna," "Hold The Line,"" and their 8X-platinum smash, "Africa." The band's anthemic arena-rock is influenced by a variety of styles that include progressive rock, world rhythms, soul, and jazz.
Despite their acclaim the group had to face a number of difficulties in their later years. In 2002, drummer Greg Phillinganes left the group, and keyboardist David Paich took a leave of absence due to health reasons. Shem von Schröeck was brought in to replace him however the band was not the same without Paich or Phillinganes. In 2008, a series of lineup changes and a series of albums that were disappointing led Toto to break up for a period of time. However, the group resumed performing in 2012 following the release of their album 40 Trips Around the Sun.
The album was a return to form for the band, and the tour accompanied it with sold-out shows in North America and Europe. Toto's reunion was bolstered by the addition of guitarist Steve Lukather and bassist Shem von Schroeck, who both rejoined the group.
Toto's music is as relevant today as it was in the 1970s and 1980s, as it has gained new fans with each passing generation. Their success has made them a permanent presence in pop culture and their live shows are always full of energy and excitement.
